About 1 in 8 new mothers suffer from postpartum depression (PPD).
Leaving new mothers feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and disconnected. It’s a challenging experience that can significantly impact both mental and physical well-being.
While medication can provide PPD relief, many mothers seek natural alternatives that are safe for both themselves and their breastfeeding babies. One such promising option is saffron, a spice known for its potent antidepressant properties.
Clinical Evidence on Saffron for Postpartum Depression
A double-blind, randomized, and placebo-controlled trial conducted on 60 new mothers with postpartum depression tested the effects of saffron on depressive symptoms. The participants were randomly assigned to either a placebo group or a group receiving 30mg of saffron extract per day.
The results were remarkable: saffron significantly reduced the severity of mild-to-moderate depression without causing any significant adverse effects on breastfeeding mothers.
Furthermore, saffron demonstrated higher response and remission rates than the placebo, making it a promising alternative treatment for PPD.
Saffron vs. Conventional Antidepressants
In another clinical trial, mothers suffering from postpartum depression were randomized to receive either 30mg of saffron extract per day or 40mg of fluoxetine (a commonly prescribed antidepressant) for six weeks.
The results showed that saffron was just as effective as fluoxetine in improving depressive symptoms, without the risks of side effects typically associated with conventional antidepressants.
How Saffron Works to Support Mental Health
Saffron contains compounds, like crocin and safranal, that have mood-boosting properties. Research has shown that saffron can help regulate neurotransmitters such as serotonin, which plays a crucial role in regulating mood and emotions.
By increasing serotonin levels in the brain, saffron can help alleviate the symptoms of depression, including sadness, anxiety, and irritability.
Words from our Happy Postpartum Customers:
“I'm someone who suffered severe postpartum depression and took two antidepressants simultaneously for years before weaning off. Without the antidepressants I've coped, but it's been a tough go.I found THE FULLEST through my postpartum doula (and not to be dramatic) but it has changed my life. I drink a cup or two of Warm Feelings daily and that, combined with Kinder Thoughts, has just had a huge and positive impact on my mental health.I feel clearer, more capable of slowing down and thinking through tougher moments, and simply more joyful. I honestly can't see myself going without THE FULLEST.” — Isa G.
“Love this product. I have been ordering since I gave birth 5 months ago. It helped me with my postpartum and kept me going. Will continue to use!” — Erica N.
“I have started taking this one month before I give birth to help with prenatal depression and continue into postpartum. Every time I drink this it just feels like a warm hug. AndI notice it has helped my mood about two weeks in! So happy with this and I can’t wait to continue the warm feelings into my postpartum season.” — Libby L.
“I started taking this Saffron in pill form almost 2 months ago and it has done wonders. Back story, I struggled badly with grief since my dad 3 passed years ago and thennever really got over postpartum depression since my uterus stayed enlarged. Mentally I was not myself and had constant intrusive thoughts, angry, sad, lack of impulse control with my emotions and so on. It felt like everything bothered me from the tiniest thing to the biggest and deeply too. I tried other brands of saffron and none have even come close to what this brand of saffron has done for me. I don't sob cry every day, I don't have intrusive thoughts, I have great impulse control with my emotions and I feel normal. When something triggers me it's like the switch valve doesn't open up from my brain to my body and run havoc like before. I feel strong on the inside. This all started within maybe 3 days of taking the pills. I will probably always take it because I never want to feel how I felt before. I'm assuming it helps with Methylating because of how regulated my mind is now.” — Demetra O.
“This came at the perfect time for me as I just had a baby and postpartum can have its ups and downs. I swear this latte lifts me up, it tastes absolutely delicious and also feels like such a delicious treat.I am so happy I am doing this for myself and swear by the results and the taste!” — Allison K.
