This month, Emily Moore, our Senior Marketing Manager, takes over In My Orbit. Even though Emily works in the wellness industry, you won’t find her listing out a thousand superfoods and the latest biotech trends. In fact, her current lifestyle focuses more on removing the noise and superfluous from her orbit — be it others’ opinions, microwaves, or the pressure of perfectionism. She also throws in a dose of daily sunshine — and it’s all clearly working because her radiance speaks for itself! Read on for more of Emily’s natural wellness hacks.
Q: This is obviously a moving target — but what’s your current wellness philosophy?
A: This is a tricky question because I’m a firm believer that wellness doesn’t fit into a box. It is constantly shifting and evolving.
For me, wellness is less of a philosophy and more of a lifestyle; it ebbs and flows with what my body needs at that particular moment.
Some days that means lounging in my cozies and turning my phone off. Other days, it means waking up with the sunrise and going on a 7-mile run. I try my best to listen to my body.
The past couple of years I have also learned to slow down and be okay with not ticking every box on my to-do list — including wellness items. This has actually helped me go inward and listen to my body’s needs. To put it in perspective, my mom used to tell me, “It’s okay to not get an A” — although no longer in school, I like to apply this concept to my adult life. I don’t have to be perfect or keep up with the wellness trends to be the best version of myself. The best version of myself is already here. I think that is my current wellness philosophy.
Q: Which foods are currently taking prime position in your kitchen pantry?
A: Chickpeas are such a staple for me. (On the topic of chickpeas, do you call them garbanzo beans, or chickpeas? As an avid fan of them, I always wonder this!) Anyway, chickpeas are a pantry essential. I always make sure to buy organic chickpeas (try to get the ones in a glass jar; Jovial stocks the most plump chickpeas with no additives).
As a garbanzo bean fanatic, I have perfected the ideal crispy chickpea recipe!
- 1 jar organic chickpeas, strained & pat dry
- 2 tablespoons cold-pressed, organic olive oil
- 1 tablespoon organic apple cider vinegar
- ½ tablespoon organic stone-ground mustard
- Juice of 1 organic lemon
- Sprig of fresh organic dill
- Pinch of Celtic sea salt
- Pinch of organic red pepper flakes
- 2 tablespoons of nutritional yeast
- Strain chickpeas & pat dry on a carbon steel baking sheet
- Mix all ingredients (except the fresh dill) directly onto chickpeas & bake on 400° for 15-20 minutes
- Top with fresh dill and an extra pinch of nutritional yeast!
I always like to play around with this recipe. Sometimes I’ll sub salt for apple cider vinegar and add a splash of organic coconut amino acids. Other times, I will add oregano and harissa for a zing! I also love blending up raw chickpeas with the above ingredients and serving it as a creamy hummus. There are so many things to do with this bean and truthfully, I never get tired of it.
Q: What’s a random wellness tip you live by?
A: GET RID OF YOUR TV! GET RID OF YOUR MICROWAVE!
I know this may sound unrealistic to some, but I am a firm believer in this! I live in a small studio and don’t have room for much. The last thing I want taking up space in my sacred nest are pieces of technology. Let’s be honest they are an eyesore anyway — but also a huge contributor to EMFs and radiation.
Not having a TV has forced me to engage in things like journaling, catching up with friends, and getting outside. (And don’t get me wrong, when I do want to indulge in television, I can always stream shows off my computer!)
Not having a microwave has forced me to put more love into the food I cook. I am able to sprinkle extra TLC into making things like oatmeal, popcorn, and bites to eat that would typically be made in a microwave.
I won’t ever look back on these decisions and encourage everyone to try to implement these practices into your home!
Q: Is there a practice, item, or piece of wisdom you’ve kept from childhood that still holds meaning for you today?
A: My dad loves to drive with the windows down and sunroof open. Back in the ninth grade, there was one particular sunny day where he was playing some classic rock song, belting every lyric out loud (air-drums and all). We pulled up to a red light (and as my insecurities at this age were at their peak), I scrunched down in my seat with a beet red face telling him he was embarrassing me. He said these words that I will never forget, “You don’t even know these people! You will never see them again! You’re going to let them affect your happiness?! You can’t live your life like that!”
This was an AHA-moment for me, and although it took years to implement his words into my life, I always replay that car ride when I am concerned with what others think of me. Thanks Dad, I love you!
Q: What’s one routine you implement daily?
A: I always make sure my Wi-Fi is unplugged and my phone’s bluetooth is turned off before catching zzz’s. As a creature of habit, I have a million other rituals I could share with you, but this is the one I think everyone should do. It has a long term impact on your wellbeing and only takes 3 seconds.
Q: When do you feel most beautiful?
A: Fresh out of the ocean on a sunny day. There is nothing that beats a salty dip and a kiss from the rays.
Q: Are there any healers or teachers you have on speed dial?
A: THE FULLEST’s Resources! This is my go-to rolodex for everything from grocery shopping to household hygiene. It’s not only a conscious source for myself, but I’m always proud to relay these tidbits of information with my friends and family.
Q: What’s your works-every-single-time mood booster?
A: Sunshine. Vitamin D is a daily essential for me. I’m instantly happier, my skin thanks me, and my mind has been reset. It can be as simple as going on a walk to get groceries or working from outside. (Pro tip: shade your computer under an umbrella, but lay your body in the sun! This way your computer won’t overheat but you’re still soaking in the sun’s rays!) I could go on for hours about why sunshine keeps my life humming, but this read gives a good synopsis of why you should get outside everyday.
Q: The last thing you Googled?

Q: Do you have a dream floating in your orbit that’s not yet realized?
A: To be perfectly frank, I’m at the age where the majority of my friends are settling down and getting married. Although the 30s are encroaching, I stand firm that the universe will unfold my life plan when I’m least expecting it. So, I could answer this question and say, “I’m dreaming of a family and kids” or “I’m dreaming of moving out of the country” but the truth is, I am content with what is here and now, and seeing where my internal compass takes me.
