THE FULLEST Guide to Malibu

Just north of Los Angeles lies Malibu, a magical melting pot of stunning coastline, golden beaches, striking mountains, natural healers, organic food stores, luxury hotels, curated boutiques, and a dash of celebrity. Carson Meyer is a birth doula, photographer, nutritionist, and founder of C & The Moon. She was also born and raised in Malibu, and we were fortunate enough to have this Malibu native share her best local spots and places to visit next time you’re in Malibu.

Stay

The Surfrider Hotel

This old school Malibu motel was recently remodeled as a boutique hotel with an ocean view, rooftop restaurant and really sweet rooms and porch hammocks. It is located right near the center of town, a very short walk from the beach, shops, and restaurants.

Calamigos Guest Ranch

Calamigos is a short drive from the PCH and tucked away in the Santa Monica Mountains. They have a delicious restaurant and a beautiful pool and spa.

The Nobu Hotel

The Nobu Hotel is located right on the shore and a short walk from the center of town. It is stunning.

Hotel June Malibu

Much like The Surfrider, the Hotel June was once a rundown landmark Malibu motel that has recently been converted into a chic boutique destination. It is located on the northern side of Malibu, which has a more quiet, local feel, iconic beaches, and its own little shopping center.

Eat

Real Coconut Kitchen

This is one of those places that feels too good to be true. It is a health nut’s dream. Ice cream, smoothies, milkshakes, tacos, salads, sandwiches, bowls, all cooked with high-quality, gluten-free ingredients. Hard not to order everything on the menu. But if you did, you would still leave feeling guilt free!

@realcoconutkitchen

Malibu Farm

Local chef, Helene Henderson, brought the old run down Malibu Pier back to life with her restaurant and cafe. Located on the scenic PCH overlooking the ocean, this farm fresh locally sourced restaurant is one of Malibu’s finest.

Vitamin Barn

A staple for all Malibu locals, Vitamin Barn has been around forever and so have all their lovely employees. It’s the place to go for your supplement and health food store fix. The Pamela Smoothie (named after Pamela Anderson, of course) is out of this world!

Thorn Family Farmers Market

This family-run, second generation Malibu Farm is where you will find all the locals on Saturday mornings shopping for organic produce for the week. They sell my mom’s biodynamic produce from One Sun Farm and her cult favorite granola that is addictively delicious.

Broad Street Oyster Co.

When Broad Street Oyster Co. opened up, I was over the moon! Oysters are my favorite and I was so glad not to have to venture far for really delicious, fresh shellfish.

Shop

Abierto

Abierto is my favorite shop in Malibu. It is so perfectly curated and carries some of my favorite skincare brands including C & The Moon. It is the perfect place to shop for a gift for anyone and everyone while waiting for a smoothie from Sunlife Organics.

@shopabierto

Hiptique

Hiptique is located at the far north end of Malibu across from Zuma Beach. They have a great selection of clothing and swimwear with a West Coast feel.

@hiptique

Ranch at The Pier

This shop is located at the end of the Malibu Pier across from the Malibu Farm Cafe. The Pier is a picture perfect tourist destination with a rich history. The shop has everything from luxury cameras and clothing to toys for kids.

@ranchatthepier

Bleu Salt

This Malibu-based brand makes the softest clothing that are perfect for every occasion. They truly embody the Malibu lifestyle.

@bleusalt

Malibu Shaman

This crystal and book shop has been around for as long as I can remember. It is one of few local shops that has remained over the years. It is a Malibu staple and a go to for all things metaphysical.

Visit

The Mindry

The Mindry is a meditation space located in the heart of Malibu. I wish every town was lucky enough to have a Mindry; it’s such a special place to be in community and drop into meditation with guidance and sacred space.

@themindry

Point Dume State Park

This is one of my favorite places to be in Malibu. In the springtime, the daisy bloom is breathtaking. If you sit on the bluff long enough, you will see dolphins and maybe even whales depending on the time of year. It’s a great place for a sunset stroll and a fun place to bring kids.

The Ranch Malibu

The Ranch is a profoundly rewarding experience that challenges the body and mind in the best way. This fitness retreat includes long daily hikes through some of the most stunning ocean view trails, nourishing healthy meals, daily massages, and a stay at the Four Seasons Hotel.

Dana Peneberg

Dana is a gifted healer located in Malibu. She supports women in healing through birth trauma and offers cranial sacral sessions in her beautiful studio.
