Heading out of winter and into spring this month has led us to curate a list of a nourishing mix of snuggly bed buddies and teas, cleanses to help us move into the new season feeling fresh (and double as something you’ll actually want to eat), and flowers and natural materials to add to your home to honor Mother Earth in her time of full bloom.
Just recently, after using my friend’s hot water bottle, we were all reminiscing about that lovely childhood feeling of our mothers or grandmothers bringing us hot water bottles when we weren’t feeling well. I like making tea the old school way — loose leaf. Not only is it better for the environment to ditch the tea bag, it’s better for you because most tea bags are made with plastic, so you’re just heating plastic filled herbs. Even if they’re made with paper, there is usually some sort of lining. Growing up, my family always had a teapot and tea kettle going, and if they had to use a tea bag they dreaded it. When I’m not on the go, I like to use a teapot like this to steep my tea.
Every year for Persian New Year, families put together a table setting (called a Haft-seen) that includes an assortment of seven or more items that represent nature’s rebirth. Other items include vinegar for wisdom and patience, garlic for good health, apples for beauty, sprouts for rebirth, coins for prosperity, sumac for the sunrise and spice of life, and eggs are painted to represent fertility. Persian New Year falls on the spring solstice and these flowers in particular honor and represent springtime itself. I love when I start to notice them around at the farmers market. I make a point to buy them because they smell incredible and are only around for a few short weeks!
I’ve been to my fair share of hotels but there is something about The Surfrider Hotel in Malibu that makes me feel at peace from the moment I walk through the door. - 1 tbsp Tocotrienals
- 1 tbsp Cacao Butter
- ½ tsp Salt
- Manuka Honey to taste
- Add the ingredients to a high speed blender with 12oz hot spring water. Turn on high and enjoy this creamy mushroom tonic in your favorite mug!
