Juna’s All About CBD’s Benefits

If you love cannabis, get ready to meet its cool, calm cousin: CBD. The cannabinoid is having a moment right now in both the hemp and wellness worlds as more and more people are exploring its healing qualities. The many benefits of CBD are said to help with ailments such as anxiety, depression, and insomnia, as well as diseases like multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, epilepsy, and even cancer.

Jewel Zimmer, the founder of Juna, a California-based company dedicated to using high quality CBD and THC oils in their drops, sought to create her line after exploring first hand the medicinal uses of the cannabis plant. Originally a fine dining pastry chef, in 2009 the entrepreneur launched an artisanal chocolate company called {cocoa} where she would regularly work with a chemist to extract polyphenol antioxidants (or mood-enhancers) from cacao beans.

Since she was based in San Francisco, a hotspot for the up-and-coming cannabis world, curious people began to ask for her help creating their various hemp-based formulations. Although hesitant at first, once she learned about cannabis, she fell in love with the plant and its many healing properties and felt moved to tell people about it.

Determined to make a brand people would feel comfortable about choosing, she decided to focus on drops, and formulated her California-crafted creations with coconut oil, botanical additives, and antioxidants.

With three different formulas deriving from cannabis and hemp, Juna consists of three types: NUDE, JADE, and GOLD which each have different combinations of CBD and/or THC.

Zimmer describes the non-psychoactive (just CBD) NUDE as being a “clean, connected balance” that is rich in antioxidants, is anti-inflammatory, and helps balance your mood. JADE, which includes both CBD and THC, is “serene and leisurely” and is mildly psychoactive, heightening perception and sensuality. GOLD is pure THC (“shiny, happy, and present”) and since it is psychoactive, creates an uplifted social mood.

The way CBD works, according the HealthLine, is through the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) which regulates body functions like pain and immune responses and produces neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors throughout the nervous system. Additionally, some studies have shown that CBD can help reduce pain by reducing inflammation and aiding neurotransmitter activity, and also by aiding serotonin uptake and increasing blood flow to the brain.

The standard way of taking Juna’s drops are to place them under your tongue, however, there are many ways you can ingest them. Zimmer chooses to take her oil in her morning coffee every day, and says it eases the unwanted side effects of caffeine, providing focus without the jitters, while others put it in juices, tonics, or even cocktails.

A drop a day…
