Ariel Kaye

Founder and CEO of the fast-growing home essentials brand Parachute, Ariel Kaye established the company to fulfill consumers’ needs for high quality bedding and a good night’s sleep. The tenets of this brand include quality, craftsmanship and social responsibility — concepts Ariel learned in her ten years working in brand development and advertising in New York. Through her experience she was able to yield invaluable insight to consumer purchase behavior which has aided her success with the company.

Based in Venice Beach, this startup has received lots of positive attention from the media. Within two years, Forbes declared that “Parachute Wins Over Millennials Tired of Chain Store Bedding.” The brand has been called one of the “25 Hot Los Angeles Startups to Watch” by Business Insider, and has been featured in notable publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Architectural Digest and ELLE DECOR. On top of running Parachute, Ariel is a certified yoga instructor and aspiring surfer.

We recently caught up with her to ask what the seven things are that are most inspiring her at the moment. This is what she said:

1 | Leanne Ford Leanne is a fantastic interior designer and new friend. Her approach to home decor really resonates with me and the Parachute brand. Her work is beautiful, but also laid-back and approachable.

2 | True Botanicals I’m all about face and body oils at the moment, especially those from True Botanicals. The oils make my skin feel super soft and hydrated, and their Made Safe certification ensures safe, high quality ingredients.

3 | Japanese cuisine — I can’t get enough Japanese food after a trip there this past summer. I’m now a regular at Sunny Blue for Omusubi, Katsuya for hand rolls and MTN (which just opened in Venice) for more of an Izakaya menu. Next, I’m going to explore Gardena for the best soba noodles at Otafuku. They’re made of pure buckwheat and they import their flour straight from Japan!

4 | Alexandra Karamallis I recently discovered the work of artist Alexandra Karamallis on Tappan Collective and am obsessed with her bold, joyful paintings. I plan to get one of her pieces for my home soon!

5 | Best Self JournalRunning a business comes with many challenges and busy days. To provide structure, I turn to the Best Self Journal so I can outline my goals and day-to-day tasks. I love the 30-minute time blocks to keep me on schedule and the positive reminders peppered throughout the journal.

6 | LCD Soundsystem When it comes to music, I’ve been listening to the new LCD Soundsystem album, American Dreams, on repeat. I’ve been waiting a long time for new music from the band and they did not disappoint.

7 | LoxMy Labradoodle puppy always keeps me interested and inspired! I love exploring Venice and meeting new neighbors on my walks with her. She has certainly added to our little family and keeps me grounded in an otherwise hectic world.
