Round Up Of Green Books

This roundup of green books (our favorites) released this year, ranging from cookbooks to a guide in effortless healing, will keep you occupied throughout summer. Take the time to soak up some Vitamin D and learn more about connecting within. Come into alignment through eating clean, get inspired by the beauty of whole, unprocessed foods, and elevate your mind with these tools for feeling and living as your best self, inside and out!

Très Green, Très Clean, Très Chic: This très clean, plant-based, gluten-free recipe book fills our hearts with joy as we flip through the colorful and uplifting pages of deliciousness! We connect with Rebecca on so many levels through our love of food, beauty, yoga, music, and travel. We couldn’t be happier to give you a preview of this lifestyle book and all the goodies inside. Her personality shines through each paragraph—we can’t help, but laugh out loud at her puns and eccentric titles. The book is organized by season; she offers recipes, a song playlist, and yoga for energy, self-confidence, good mood, and digestion. Our favorite foods are Socca Pizza (made with chickpea flour crust), Matcha Breakfast Bowl and Spaghetti Squash Puttanesca. She features many contributing chefs, who offer unbelievable recipes including Sarma Melngailis of Pure Food and Wine, with her tasty Zucchini Fettuccine with Creamy Pine Nut Alfredo Sauce. We love how Rebecca includes a Très Green, Très Clean, Très Chic cheat sheet of all the fun places to eat and drink throughout the US and France. She also includes a list of “Positive Fashion”—we are definitely hooked and can’t wait to make that dream trip to Paris a reality!

Plant Based Paleo: Nutritionist Jenna Zoe has stunned us with her incredible array of vegan-paleo (pegan) recipes. This book avoids refined sugars, flours and grains, as well as dairy, whole grains, meat, fish, eggs, beans and legumes. You may think this is an impossible diet to adhere to—but with these amazing recipes, you may think twice. The beauty of this book and the content make our mouths water as we flip through the pages. Jenna also went a step further by providing us with nutritional information for each recipe! The book is organized by eating windows: Sunrise Start, Punchy Munchies, Super Salads and Sides, Light Lunches, Evening Feasts and Feel-Good Treats. You can’t resist immediately walking into the kitchen and whipping up your favorite recipes. A preview of our favorites so far: Cauli-Pops (puff pastry pops made from a cauliflower and almond base); Spicy Sweet Potato Moussaka, Hemp Tabbouleh with Pea and Mint Falafel; Chai-Ginger Panna Cotta

Dr. Mercola’s Guide to Effortless Healing: As a huge inspiration to us throughout the years, Dr. Mercola’s website offers a wealth of information and is a page we land on several times per week. He also recently published a seasonal magazine. His newest book offers a depth of knowledge and research from all of his years in practice. This is by far the most cutting edge information on how to heal your body through lifestyle and dietary choices. Dr. Mercola also discusses the 9 simple ways to sidestep illness, shed weight, and help our body heal itself. He discusses different tools to aid you on your path towards optimal wellness, including some of our favorites like EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), intermittent fasting, sun exposure for Vitamin D, standing desks, fermented vegetables for healthy gut flora, and eating high quality fats. By teaching us how to take control of our own health, Dr. Mercola reminds us that it’s ultimately up to us to help our body heal itself.

Coconut Kitchen: Even if we didn’t work with Meredith, and didn’t know how gorgeous, talented, creative, funny, and grounded she is, we would still be absolutely head over heels about her new book, Coconut Kitchen. Just looking at this stunning book makes us feel pure from the inside-out! Coconut, she says, is nature’s most beautifying superfood—and we couldn’t agree more! Her writing leaves you hungry for more—for her wisdom, but also to know her personally. We learn about different types of products, including coconut butter, coconut oil, coconut flakes, coconut meat, coconut water, coconut sugar, coconut vinegar, and coconut flour. Meredith then teaches us about the practical consumption of these products: coconut ferments, breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, and skin + body. Our favorite recipes so far include: Mango Lassi with Turmeric, Rose, and Cardamom, Manna Bread with Radish, Mint, and Coconut Mayonaise, Carrot Coconut Wrapper with Pistachio Pea Hummus and Jalapeno Cilantro Oil. We are also obsessing over the Coconut and Honey Body Scrub and Coconut Shampoo with optional Palo Santo—this must be why she always smells so good! This book is one of those you can’t keep your hands off; you take it from your kitchen, to the bedroom, to the bathtub, to the living room to show off its beauty on your coffee table. Coconut Kitchen is a remarkable gathering of recipes and beautiful commentary inspiring us to live a healthier and more vibrant life.

My New Roots: Organized in a flow of five seasons—yes, five, Sarah Britton divides summer into two seasons based on her knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The type of produce harvested in the early summer with “hot weather, bright sun, and warmer days” is different than the late summer when it’s “still warm but the days are noticeably shorter and you can feel the fall approaching.” We love Sarah’s perspective on food and the delicious, but also good-for-you whole food recipes that she so beautifully presents to us here. Our favorites: Buckwheat Crepes with Creamy String Bean Slaw, Cornmeal Pancakes with Gingered Plum Compote, Blood Orange Chocolate Cake, and Pickled Fennel, Grapefruit, Cabbage and Avocado Salad. Sarah places recognizable symbols next to each recipe to remind us whether it’s vegan, gluten-free, requires planning ahead, or is an overnight or long-term project (8+ hours). There’s nothing worse than planning a recipe for dinner and realizing last minute the nuts needed to soak for 8 hours! Thanks Sarah for making our lives a bit easier and motivating us to get creative with our food!

The Beauty Detox Power: Kimberly Snyder is one of my favorite nutritionists—she walks the walk. I’ve read all of her books and I love her tone of voice—positive, upbeat, fun, and inspiring. This book differs from her others because it offers a deeper approach to the Beauty Detox lifestyle. Kimberly encourages us to realize ourselves—to check in and notice how our thoughts affect our weight and external appearance. She believes that stored anger (as well as other emotions) show up in different ways—including holding on to excess weight. Replacing our thoughts with positivity is my favorite aspect of her book. She also discusses aligning the chakras! You will read this book over and over and keep close to your kitchen for the delicious, properly food combined recipes. We can hardly wait to see what’s next!
